The Bartlett Family papers contain correspondence to and from family members as well as some family friends. Some of Samuel Colcord Bartlett's Dartmouth presidential correspondence, also his American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions correspondence, is interfiled with his family correspondence. His travel letters (1873-74), sent to his wife, Mary, and his children, offer descriptions of Ireland, England, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Egypt, and Palestine. His cashbooks and some appointment books include lists of expenditures. In addition to family members, correspondents include Julia Catherine Stimson, Julia Learned, James Learned, Susan H. Gilbert Dickinson (Emily Dickinson's sister-in-law) and Massachusetts congressman, Orin Fowler.
